The Alliance to Restore the Republic, or Rebel Alliance for short, was an organisation that came together to fight against the rule of the Empire and restore freedom to the galaxy. After Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine proclaimed himself Emperor and founded his Empire, several resistance groups were gradually formed to fight against the Reign of Terror. The leaders of the largest resistance movements were Mon Mothma, leader of the Chandrilan Resistance, and Bail Organa, leader of the Alderaanian Resistance. The two groups later formed an alliance and joined forces to fight against the Empire. The aim of the group was to re-establish a new galactic government with a democratic orientation - as was once the case with the Galactic Republic before Palpatine came to power.
